The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Reading Time: 5 minutes

The Holy Spirit, the undervalued member of the Godhead. Some refer to Him as a force, influence or energy. He is neither! He is a person, He is God Himself. And we are leaving in His dispensation.

I talk about dispensation alot because, God is a God of order, He is NOT the author of confusion; He does things in times and seasons.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT
[1] For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

If you would profit from your walk with the Father, you MUST prioritize times and seasons also.  This way, you can walk in sync with God, knowing therefore how to take your journey in Him.

Even Jesus our Lord, said to us, “it’s better I go away, so that the Holy Spirit can come”. The Holy Spirit is another dimension of God that is most suitable to close out the age ( I’m talking about rapture). Because of His attributes (which I’ll talk more about shortly).

The Holy Spirit is not inferior to the Father nor to Jesus Christ, just because He is mention third in the Trinity. I believe it is so because of the order of their manifestations to mankind.

I’ve witnessed many Christians downgrade or flat out reject the person and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, due to reasons best know to them. Regardless of the reasons; it is a “FOOLISH” thing to do.

If Jesus could not do life without the Holy Spirit, what makes you think you can?

Was it not Jesus who said; I would not leave you as orphans.

John 14:18 NLT
[18] No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.

Implying that a Christian without the Holy Spirit is an orphan.

Who is an orphan? An orphan is a child who doesn’t have a parent (simply put). Meaning this child is without protection, direction and help. This child is vulnerable.

No wonder the Bible says those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God, by contrast, those who are not led by the Spirit of God are not sons.

Rejecting the Holy Spirit is rejecting the gift of God.

Do you know that the best gift the Father could ever give to His children (believers) is His Spirit.

Luke 11:11, 13 NLT
[11]  “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?
[13] So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

So why then do so many Christians reject this Gift?

The idea that we can somehow walk our Christian life without the help of the Holy Spirit, is what has led many off the narrow path.

This is because a Christian without the Holy Spirit CANNOT be an accurate Christian.

John 16:13 NLT
[13] When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

A Christian who refuses to value the ministry of the Holy Spirit is completely annihilated from the things of God and it’s only a matter of time before their FOLLY will become apparent. Just like the parable of the 10 virgins.

Let’s talk more about this marvelous gift, The Holy Spirit and His attributes;

The Holy Spirit is a Person with a mind, will, emotions, and communication abilities.

The Holy Spirit’s character is reflected in the fruit of the Spirit, which includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The Holy Spirit guides Christians into all truth, teaching them all things, and leads them in every part of their lives.

The Holy Spirit empowers Christians with inner strength that produces godly fruit in their hearts.

The Holy Spirit is the custodian of spiritual gifts and He freely gives to believers.

The Holy Spirit brings comfort and reassurance to Christians in times of trial and difficulty.

The Holy Spirit convicts Christians of sin and guides them towards repentance and redemption.

Do you see how incapacitated any Christian who does not exalt and reverence the ministry of the Holy Spirit is? And this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Remember Jesus also warned us to not be deceived in these days (Matthew 24:4).

Well! how does a Christian intend to overcome deception if he/she doesn’t have the Holy Spirit to guide them to what is true?

Jesus said there are many things I want to tell you but you would not understand but when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all Truth (John 16:12).

The Holy Spirit is the principal of this dispensation. Without Him you can neither know Jesus nor truth.

Jesus saying He will take my things and make them known to you is a reality. It is not just a statement. Jesus doesn’t just talk, He doesn’t use words the way we mortals do! Every word He speaks is intended to give life.

I know there are many Christians that deny or trivialize the ministry of the Holy Spirit and still claim they have a relationship with Jesus..

You are deceived! If you don’t even know Truth! How then can you know whether or not you are walking in truth?

I’ve also seen others believe that because they have access to the logos (Bible), they think they have the revelation (Rhema) of the Bible.

Reading the Bible is different from knowing the Bible. The first gives you information, but the later gives life. For a man’s heart to be transformed, he needs to rely on the Holy Spirit.

Did you know that the Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible? the Bible says holy men were carried by the Spirit, they were inspired by the Spirit of God to write the Bible (2 peter 1:21). Therefore, in order to benefit from reading your Bible, you need the help of the Holy Spirit, just like the writers did to write it.

If Spirit wrote it, you’ll need the same Spirit to help you understand it.

So, if you are one that has somehow trivialized the ministry of the Holy Spirit, whether outrightly or subtly in your heart and you have not accorded Him the same honor you have for the Father and Jesus, you need to repent and ask for forgiveness because you have grieved Him.

The Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Godhead, not in power and importance but in the era of His revealing.

The Holy Spirit is the third to be revealed.

Therefore, if you as a true Christian desire to have a potent, meaningful and fruitful relationship with God, you MUST cherish the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

I leave you with the words of Jesus; all those who are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Who is leading you?

Until next time.

Blessings.
